Apple releases iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 to fix battery drain issues

Today Apple is releasing a new round of software updates for its mobile devices. This includes iOS 15.4.1 for all supported iPhones, as well as iPadOS 15.4.1 for all supported tablets. As the number incrementation strongly implies, this is a minor release that doesn't bring any new features. It does, however, purport to improve something that we'd wager is incredibly important for most people: battery life. That's because the release notes mention that upon installation of this update, your iPhone or iPad will fix the battery drain issues that were apparently introduced with the release of...

Google Pixel 6a retail box allegedly leaks showing new Pixel 6-like design

Google is widely expected to announce the Pixel 6a during its I/O conference taking place this May. The 6a will of course be the company's next installment in its affordable smartphone line, following on from the 5a launched last year. Today an unverified source brings us the image you can see below, which obviously claims to portray the retail box for the upcoming Google Pixel 6a. And if this is real, which is a big if, then it seems like Google is looking to unify its design language across its smartphone range, as the Pixel 6a sports a distinctly Pixel 6-like look, and doesn't resemble...

Google updates Search and News to help you steer clear of fake news

Almost a year ago, Google made some notable steps toward limiting the spread of fake news. The company introduced a feature that warns people of unreliable search results. Now, the search giant has added some information literacy tips. It only works in the US for now, though. So with the latest update to News and Search, Google is trying to educate users on how to fact-check their information, especially if the algorithm has recognized the search topic as evolving and widely discussed. It displays suggestions such as searching the author's name to see if he or she is a legitimate...

The iQOO Neo6 we've been hearing about since last December finally has a launch date - April 13. This is now rolling out in multiple regions to both Exynos and Snapdragon 4G versions. But wait, the S20 FE 4G is not alone! The One UI 4.1 update has also made its way to the Galaxy A71 5G, which is thus skipping One UI 4.0 altogether, being bumped straight to One UI 4.1, which means this is its first Android 12 update. The A71 5G units sold in the UAE and Korea are the first to get One UI 4.1, complete with March 2022 security patch...

Samsung Galaxy M53 image leaks

The Samsung Galaxy M53 was expected to launch in Vietnam on March 27, alongside the M23 and M33. And while those two did arrive on schedule, the M53 is nowhere to be seen. Instead of an official look at the phone, here is a leaked image. The M53 looks quite different from the Galaxy A53 5G, the design language matches the Galaxy M33 instead with a square quad camera bump in the corner and an LED flash below. That camera bump is supposed to contain a 108 MP sensor in the main module, by the way. That’s is Galaxy A73 5G’s headline feature (since it lost its telephoto camera)....

Google is working on automatic smart tag detection for Android

Google is working on automatic tracker detection for Android. It's a feature that allows your phone to detect if there's an unrecognized smart tracker near your phone for prolonged time. This is a feature that prevents ill-intentioned people from planting smart trackers such as Apple's AirTags or Tile's trackers on unsuspecting folk and using them to follow their location. The functionality was discovered by 9to5Google after decompiling the Play services APK. The code revealed the line Unfamiliar device alerts, followed by a Unfamiliar Tag Detected Notification with three smart tag...

Samsung Galaxy A53 comes with bundled charger in Brazil

While Samsung announced its Galaxy A53 5G almost two weeks ago we just got confirmation that Brazilian units of the phone actually ship with a bundled 15W charger. Online retailer Americanas is one of the authorized Samsung resellers in the country and a Samsung official store team member confirms the phone ships with a 15W charger in the device’s FAQ page. Strangely enough the official Samsung Brazil page for the Galaxy A53 does not mention anything about the in-box contents. Samsung Galaxy A53 5G FAQ page We’ve also come across an unboxing of the device from Brazilian YouTube...

Xiaomi partnership with Leica seemingly confirmed by MIUI app

Some partnerships between phone makers and camera companies seem to be little more than marketing ploys. Others, however, have changed mobile photography for the better - and perhaps none more than the cooperation between Huawei and Leica. However, with Huawei's well documented problems over the past few years, stemming from various US government bans, it's been selling way less phones than it used to, and Leica might be looking to partner with another smartphone maker. It's been rumored already for a few months: the Xiaomi 12 Ultra's camera module will be Leica branded. But... could this...

Rugged Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro 2 leaks in renders

Samsung's Xcover line of rugged smartphones is apparently due for a refresh this year, with the Galaxy Xcover Pro 2 already spotted in a benchmark database listing earlier this month. And today the same device has been portrayed in detailed CAD-based renders. The source of the renders also claims the phone will have a 6.56" screen (approximate size), an Infinity-V design at the front (that's what Samsung calls a waterdrop notch), a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The Galaxy Xcover Pro 2's dimensions are alleged to be 169.5 x 81.1 x 10.1 mm. This...

Samsung explains the design ideas that shaped One UI 4

Samsung offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes into how One UI 4.0 was designed. Key goals were for the interface to be intuitive and safe while making it easy for users to express themselves. Version 4 starts out with a color system that was focused on cleaning up the look. Color is applied to the most important elements, everything else is left in monochrome. The system has three groups of colors: core, functional and app colors. Before One UI 4.0, the interfaced used slightly different colors to mean the same thing. Version 4 unified them in a consistent manner to create the...

Asus expects GPU prices to fall by up to 25%, UK retailer also predicts prices will go down

Finding a graphics card at MSRP has been basically impossible for the last couple of years, but there are signs that the GPU drought is coming to an end. According to 3DCenter, GPUs are the cheapest they have been since it started tracking their prices in January 2021 (note: 3DCenter focused on prices in Germany and Austria). Nvidia RTX 3000 and AMD RX 6000 cards are “just” 25% over MSRP. It doesn’t sound great, but this is the lowest level in the last 15 months. And there are encouraging comments from OEMs and retailers. 3DCenter's price chart for GPUs over the last 15 months (in...

Samsung drops the Z from the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 in Baltic countries

Samsung has quietly removed the Z letter from the name of the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 5G in the three Baltic countries - Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The move hasn't been officially explained but seems logical enough - to dispel any association with Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The product pages for both phones on all three local Samsung sites lack the Z letter in the images, but it's still present in the URL, showing that the move is quite recent. Interestingly, the Ukrainian Samsung website still has the Galaxy Z naming, but that will likely change soon...

Apple reportedly cuts iPhone SE production by 20%

Apple unveiled the latest iPhone SE earlier this month, and it went on sale already. However, it looks like the company isn't expecting it to perform as good as it had hoped. According to a new rumor out of Asia, Apple is telling multiple suppliers that it aims to cut production orders by 2 to 3 million units for the second quarter of this year (the one starting in April and ending in June). That apparently means it wants to make about 20% fewer iPhone SE (2022) units than it initially planned. "Sources briefed on the matter" told Nikkei Asia that the blame for this move goes to the...

Realme 9 4G mentioned on company site, tipped to have 108MP camera

The Realme 9 series kicked off with the 9i, a 4G only mid-ranger. After that came two Pro models (both with 5G), then the Realme 9 5G and 9 5G Speed. Several leaks indicate that this will be followed by with second 4G model, though one more capable than the 9i. First off, the Realme 9 (4G) temporarily appeared in the list of devices on a realme.com support page. That has now been scrubbed, but not before it caught the eye of leakster Yogesh Brar and MySmartPrice. Realme 9 (4G) appears in list on the company's official site Besides confirming the phone’s existence, Brar also...

Fitbit is preparing new Versa, Sense, Luxe wearables, no Wear OS in sight

Fitbit was acquired by Google in 2019, and it took two years for regulators to approve the deal. However even after that is completed Fitbit is still not embracing Wear OS as per the latest rumor. It says three new devices are coming, and none of them will come with Google's wearable platform. According to 9to5Google, Fitbit Versa 4 and Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatches, as well as the Fitbit Luxe 2 band, are on their way with the brand’s own interface. The Versa and Sense watches appeared with code names Hera and Rhea within the Fitbit app. These devices both have a resolution of 336 x...

vivo X Fold launch date confirmed - it is April 11

The vivo X Fold smartphone was officially confirmed on Friday and now we even get a launch date. It will debut on April 11 with a big screen on the inside, just like the Oppo Find N and Galaxy Z Fold3. The new vivo phone will also have a secondary screen on the outside. The inner fold is not really a surprise given how all the competitors are going for the same factor, although we weren’t counting off an attempt from vivo to bring something different to the market, like an outwards hinge like the first Huawei Mate X. The event in two weeks is also supposed to be the launch...

Samsung Galaxy A13 in for review

This is the Samsung Galaxy A13 - Samsung's latest entry-level A series phone. The Galaxy A13 is a simple phone that provides a good set of specs, an emphasis on display and battery life, at the affordable starting price of €190 for the 4/64GB model, which we have today. The phone comes with a SIM tool and a cable, just like the expensive Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Galaxy A13 is a handsome phone. It has a minimalistic feel to it with its simple design - the body of the phone is made of plastic and lacks any sort of cutouts or shapes. It kind of reminds us of the unapologetically...

Weekly poll: Realme GT Neo3 - hot or not?

The Realme GT Neo3 is launching next week (in China) and it will become only the second Dimensity 8100 phone to hit the market. It is also the first to use Realme’s new UltraDart charging architecture, running at 150W (the middle of its planned range of 100-200W). Well, some units will use the 150W system, others will charge at 80W – not slow by any means (0-100% in 32 minutes), but not headline-grabbing either. The 80W model comes with a slightly larger battery, 5,000 mAh vs. 4,500 mAh for the 150W model. There is no official 0-100% time for the 150W model, but a 0-50% charge should be...

How much fast charging costs in terms of battery capacity?

Have you noticed how phones with fast charging tend to have smaller batteries than phones that charge slowly? We did. We even asked manufacturers about it, however, they were pretty tight lipped about the details. So, we decided to do our own research. We searched through our database for devices from the same maker, that launched around the same time and that have the same dimensions (down to the tenth of a millimeter), but offer different charge speeds. The idea is to remove as many variables as possible. Often times addition of fast charging is the difference between vanilla and Pro...

Weekly poll results: the Galaxy A73 5G gets a warm welcome, but availability may be an issue

Samsung may want to reconsider the launch plans for the Galaxy A73 5G. The results from last week’s poll show that this may be the best phones in the 2022 Galaxy A series. And yet we still don’t know where it will be available or how much it will cost. All we know is that it will launch in select regions in late April. We thought that losing the telephoto camera and not having a larger battery than the A53 would hurt it, but that wasn’t the case. The A73 topped the poll and got a better reception than the A53 and A33. The biggest threat to the A73 may be an S-series flagship instead of...

OnePlus 10R rumored to drop the alert slider and have centered selfie camera hole punch

One of the many smartphones that OnePlus is apparently planning to launch this year is the 10R. According to recent rumors, this should become official in May. While perhaps not a 100% direct successor, the name makes it part of the same line as the OnePlus 9R and 9RT, but according to a new rumor the 10R will differ from those two in a couple of ways. First off, the iconic OnePlus alert slider will be gone from this phone. While in the past all OnePlus devices had it, recently more and more OnePlus phones are launching without it, especially non-flagships. And the 10R will allegedly be no...

The phone with model number 2203129G appeared on Geekbench, revealing a Snapdragon 778G chipset and an 8GB RAM option. The results of the benchmark are in line with other phones, sporting the same chipset - 778 for a single core and 2,864 for multiple cores. Qualcomm is allegedly announcing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ in May

Ever since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset was announced, rumors have been flying about a mythical "+" version, which would be made using TSMC's 4nm node, instead of Samsung's - and that fueled a lot of speculation about this Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ being less prone to overheat and throttle its performance than its non-Plus sibling, since TSMC's 4nm process is widely hailed as being more efficient. Today a usually reliable source tells us that the new SoC is going to be made official at some point in May. It stands to reason that devices powered by it could then be announced immediately...

But it turns out the phone won't be the only new product on stage at the end of this month. It will be joined by the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z2, which judging by the name should succeed the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z released all the way back in 2020. It's been a long time coming for successors to these, and in fact the Bullets...

Oppo introduces Ice-Skin cooling case for Find X5 Pro

Oppo announced the Find X5 Pro a month ago as its latest flagship with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The phone already has an advanced built-in cooling solution, but the company now introduces a special Ice-Skin cooling case that helps keep the temperature further 2-3 degrees C lower. The case has a special hydrogel layer, developed by Wuhan University. Regular hydrogels draw moisture from the air and then release it through evaporation. However, in order to provide long-term cooling and not just a one-time solution, the researchers developed Glacier Mat - modified hydrogel that re-absorbs...
